Knitting

I learned how to knit from my mother and I have always found it to provide comfort in its rhythmic, tactile and repetitive nature. I wrote the following book to introduce students to the art of knitting prior to teaching them to knit and starting a knitting club. This book challenges stereotypes about knitting and demonstrates that knitting isn’t restricted to any particular gender or culture. I believe that students are more likely to feel motivated to learn to knit when they see representations of diverse people who engage in the craft.

The slideshow below highlights some of the many benefits that students can derive from knitting including decreased anxiety, increased emotional regulation, increased persistence, improved spatial skills and a sense of accomplishment.
