I believe that I met my teaching hero in this session. Gini-Newman provided powerful strategies for engaging students directly in the assessment process, moving far beyond basic self-assessment. Instead, assessment becomes an ongoing dialogue where students receive targeted feedback on what to refine before a final mark is given. Garfield Gini-Newman’s approach—anchoring each unit with a compelling question—makes classroom learning genuinely enjoyable. Furthermore, his guidance on balancing inquiry with timely direct instruction, and his emphasis on thinking organizers over traditional worksheets, shifts the focus from chasing marks to genuine learning.
