Library Volunteer

McGowan Park Elementary School

March – June 2023

This experience was the turning point that inspired me to pursue a career in teaching. While I enjoyed the organizational and administrative aspects of volunteering at the library, I found working with the students to be much more rewarding. I loved discovering which books each class favoured so I could pull them off the shelves before the students arrived. I was interested to see what books the students were reading and in recommending good reads to those who asked. Ultimately, I realized that the role I would most enjoy in the library was that of the teacher librarian, as they have the opportunity to run reading programs, choose new books for the collection, and lead library classes for the students.  This realization was what motivated me to apply for the B.Ed. program.
