Practicum 4 (Winter 2026)

During my final certification practicum in a French Immersion classroom, I designed my instruction to be cross-curricular, student centred, and connected to real-world contexts. In English Language Arts, I embedded career education (goal setting) within a Literature Circles unit. By utilizing learning progressions, I established a learning-focused approach to assessment that actively encouraged students to take ownership of their personal and academic growth.

I also prioritized cross-curricular literacy by implementing “paragraph shrinking” techniques during a Science unit on electricity, effectively building students’ reading comprehension skills within a STEM context. To measure the impact of this strategy, I utilized pre- and post-assessments to track student success. This literacy focus was balanced with hands-on experiments that allowed students to physically explore the principles of electricity and electromagnetism.

Furthermore, I developed and taught a comprehensive Social Studies unit centred on Secwépemcul’ecw. The goal of this unit was to illustrate the enduring presence and profound history of Indigenous societies in North America. By deliberately drawing connections between historical events and contemporary societal issues, I aimed to equip the students with the fundamental knowledge, empathy, and understanding required to actively participate in the ongoing work of truth and reconciliation.
