I designed and implemented this lesson as part of a Solar System unit for a Grade 6/7 class during my third practicum at South Sahali Elementary School. After reviewing the fundamentals of gravity and its critical role both on Earth and in space, the class explored the physics of how rockets overcome gravitational pull. To provide a hands-on application of these concepts, students launched film canister rockets powered by the chemical reaction of Alka-Seltzer and water. This experiential activity effectively solidified their understanding; upon returning to the classroom, students successfully analyzed and explained the complex forces required to launch a rocket into space.
